Nokia N96: First Impressions and Device Photos

12 02 2008

Earlier this week at MWC, Nokia unveiled the brand new revolutionary Nseries Member, The N96, With a lot of new cool features and specs.

Specs:

  • 16GB Phone Memory, bare in mind that there is a MicroSD slot.
  • 5 Megapixel camera with dual LED Flash.
  • Dedicated Music keys X2 and Dedicated gaming keys.
  • Wi-Fi, GPS chip, 950mAH Battery
  • 2.8″ Screen

Full Specs available here.

First Impressions:

I really adore this new device, The specs are really promising, And there’s lots of new things added by Nokia in this device like: The OS, S60 V3 FP2, The gigantic 16GB Phone memory along with a MicroSD slot, the dual LED Flash.

The N96 seems to please everyone, it’s Music capabilities is much like the N81’s, with perfectly rounded loudspeakers that seems to be louder than that’s of the N81, with the lock key that i love!!.

For Photography addicts just like me :), The N96 features the Carl Zeiss 5 Megapixel camera with dual LED Flash!!

The design of the N96 looks pretty much like the N81, with minor fixes, and believe me, it looks hotter than the N81.

But, The device is really confusing, for a lot of reasons, for instance, as I explained before, This device comes with a very weak 950mAH Battery that was one of the major downsides of the N95, The product manager of the N96 said in the Q&A hosted by WOM World that Nokia had a lot of new tweaks in the upcoming S60 V3 FP2 that made the device more energy efficient, and that this battery was included in the N96, to zip it up a notch, as dimensions really matter these days.
But frankly, I don’t think that anyone who’s interested in buying the N96 would care about it’s dimensions, It’s a geek’s best companion!, not a diva’s cell “Excluding Darla Mack Of course”.

Another thing that bugs me about this device is Dual sliding, I don’t think that dual sliding is something the N96 needs, Dual sliding in the N96 unveils the already present dedicated music keys “2 of them are usable as dedicated gaming keys”, But couldn’t the dedicated gaming keys be placed on top-front of the device just like the N81?!, I simply don’t understand why there is 2 of every music key, one in the dual slider, the other on the dashboard near the D-Pad!!

That doesn’t mean that i hate it, in fact, I’ll get one of these lean mean Nokia N96 machines when it’s released unofficially in Egypt ;) .
