N76 Camera

Camera Review:
It’s been one week since I received my trial N76, and unexpectedly, I am enjoying the device :) , I thought that it’s relatively week specs would make the phone experience a disaster , it turned wrong , the N76 includes a 2.0 megapixel camera with LED Flash , and for the first time of my life , I can’t seem to agree on whether photos taken are good or bad , that probably means that camera quality is moderate or average .

The N76 Camera shots looked averagely good at day, but as soon as you hit the zoom button , the image quality decreases dramatically .

i hope in the next firmware they’ll block the camera application by night << Just Kidding ;) , the photo quality at night is horrible , and looks like VGA/0.3 mp quality , pixilated and ugly !

Moving on to the camera application, it’s similar to the N95’s application, but not identical, it lakes some settings, Sports and Close-up mode are not present in the application , probably because of the lack of autofocus , sharpness , contrast are not present too , vivid in colour tone is absent , while the N76 Boosts more exposure compensation choices .
The good things:

  • the camera application launches pretty quickly , approximately 1.5 seconds faster than the N95’s
  • the moderate quality and lack of autofocus , has some good effects , making shooting photos a whopping 6 seconds faster than the N95-1 with V20
  • Camera can be accessed from the external screen by simply clicking the capture key , and changing mode between picture mode and video mode with a simple preview key click
  • every camera setting show up on the external screen by clicking Middle play key in camera mode
  • When it’s silent, it’s silent!!
The phone doesn’t play capture tone when it’s in silent mode, the N95 plays the tone whether it was in silent mode or not.

The bad things:

  • I don’t know why they did this , but the camera applications of both screens are not linked together , they are separated , so if I open the application from the internal screen and close the lid , it’ll not show up , same thing when I do the exact opposite
  • Lack of autofocus
  • though both the N95 and N76 have the same LED flash , the flash quality in the N76 is lower than that’s of N95
  • Both preview key and camera key are very stiff and require moving your hands while clicking them, leading to movement of camera.

So, can this phone replace your digital camera??? No, NOPE, absolutely not!!
But it can be used for snapping pics quickly when you are with your friends or family , when the digital camera isn’t around .

This review is not from the perspective of an N95 user, as it’ll be unfair to compare a 5 megapixel phone with a 2 megapixel camera, but from the perspective of a mobile user that snapped a lot of pics on tens of devices.
